Carl Andre, Robert Barry, Douglas Huebler, Joseph Kosuth, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Lawrence Weiner—also known as the “Xerox Book”—was published in 1968 by Seth Siegelaub, editor.
Seven artists were asked to make a 25-page work on 8 1/2” x 11” paper, which was then photocopied and printed; the resulting book was an exhibition in catalogue form. Visit Primary Information’s Seth Siegelaub archive to download a PDF of the catalogue, which I still think about, but was truly concerned with as an art school youngster interested in critical museum studies and subverting the exhibition-as-form. At the moment, I’m working on an essay that relates this moment in the history of independent publishing to the Social Web that came much later. 2.0!!!
